School Groups

Let Camp Carvela host your school's next overnight field trip!

Camp Carvela is the perfect place to host your school's environmental education program, leadership retreat, or community-building event. Nestled in the woods a short drive from downtown Traverse City, our location offers a quiet and sprawling place to gather, explore, and learn.

We can accommodate various group sizes and program lengths throughout the winter, spring, and fall; we have limited availability June-August.

Contact us today at 231-299-0005 to learn more about our facilities and to discuss your group's unique needs.

Our program goal is to connect participants to their communities, their environment, and each other through outdoor, choice-based experiences.

We achieve this by giving participants maximum control over their time with us. For each daily programming period, we offer students with several choices for outdoor, place-based activities. This helps ensure that they are engaged in their activity, and gives them the opportunity to practice group decision making and lead their peers. This is true for out-of-camp excursions as well; participants may choose from several options each day. Unstructured free-time is an essential part of each day, during which participants have the chance to interact freely and create their own fun. Free-time also enables participants to continue an activity that they are particularly interested in.

Have specific programming and curriculum needs? Let us know! We can co-design custom itineraries to fit your group's unique requirements.

While at Camp Carvela your students and staff will rest easy in winterized cabins, enjoy delicious meals from our dining hall, and enjoy the comforts of home in our recently renovated bath house.

Group rental includes access to our art house, waterfront cottage, health office, and other spaces as needed, depending on your unique needs and preferences.

Food & Dining

Each day, our kitchen staff serves a tasty lineup of well-balanced meals that include protein, grains, fruits, and veggies incorporated into a student-friendly menu.

Vegetarian and allergy-friendly options are available! We're committed to making menu plans that work for everyone, so please let us know your group's needs and preferences when making your reservation.

Cabins & Bathouse

You'll have your pick of 2 heated bunkhouses and 7 rustic cabins as options. Each heated bunkhouse can hold up to 32 students and staff while the smaller rustic cabins can accommodate  8-9 students and staff.

Our modern bathhouse is centrally located near all cabins and offers individual toilet and shower stalls, hot water, and plenty of sinks and mirrors.

We are committed to creating a diverse environment in which we can all grow, feel safe, and connect with others. We welcome participants of any race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, disability (assuming the disability permits safe participation in programming), national or ethnic origin.
